Moving and Storage in San Diego

A move-out date and a move-in date rarely land on the same day, and San Diego's tight housing market makes that gap even more common — especially during PCS season, when storage facilities near the bases often fill up before the summer rush even peaks. We bridge that gap ourselves: load your things, hold them, and deliver them again once your new place is ready.

  • Anyone whose move-out and move-in dates don't line up.
  • Military families on PCS orders who need somewhere to hold belongings between duty stations.
  • Homeowners between closing on a sale and closing on a purchase.
  • Renters downsizing into a smaller place and storing the rest.

What the Job Involves

We take

  • Full households, loaded once and stored until your new place is ready
  • Furniture wrapped and padded for storage, not just transport
  • Boxed belongings, packed by you or by us
  • Appliances, disconnected and stored safely

We can't take

  • Hazardous materials — propane, paint, chemicals, aerosols
  • Perishable food and plants
  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Full exclusion list confirmed once we build your inventory

Storage-in-transit is inventoried the same way a straight move is — we log what's going in before it's stored, so nothing is a surprise when it comes back out.

Short-Notice and Same-Week Moves

Storage space is the part that runs out first — near the bases especially, facilities often fill before peak PCS season even hits its heaviest stretch in June and July. Booking the storage side a few weeks ahead gives us the most room to hold your things exactly as long as you need.

Possible most of the year if storage space and a crew are both free.

How the Price Is Worked Out

A move paired with storage is priced in two separate pieces — the move itself, billed the same hourly way any local job is, by crew and truck size, plus the stretch of time your things sit in storage. How long you need storage matters more here than it does on a straight move, since that's the piece that isn't a one-day job.

Crew and truck size

Sized to your inventory, same as a straight local move.

Length of storage

How many weeks or months your things are held is its own factor, separate from the move itself.

Access on both ends

Stairs or long carries at pickup and at final delivery both add labor time.

What You Don't Take With You

Storage isn't free, and paying to hold something you were going to replace anyway rarely makes sense. Most people use the gap between move-out and move-in as the moment to decide what's actually worth storing.

Donation-worthy items

Furniture and goods in decent shape can be picked up and routed to donation instead of storage.

Everything else

What's not worth storing gets hauled off through our junk removal side, same crew, one visit.

Apartments, Condos and HOAs

Single-family homes

Full household loaded from driveway or curb, ready for storage.

Condos and HOA buildings

Downtown buildings usually need a loading dock and elevator window booked ahead, plus a certificate of insurance for the property manager.

On-base and military housing

We work around gate access and any move-out inspection your housing office requires.

Some buildings won't let a crew in without a certificate of insurance and a reserved loading dock window already lined up. Give us your building details at booking and that paperwork is done well before move day arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can you hold my things in storage?

As long as your gap between move-out and move-in runs — from a couple of weeks to a few months. Tell us the timeline when you book and we'll quote it accordingly.

Is my stuff stored in the same truck it's moved in?

No — your belongings are inventoried and moved into secure storage, then loaded again for final delivery once your new place is ready.

What license does a moving-and-storage company need in California?

A mover operating entirely within California needs an active CPUC household goods carrier permit with a Cal-T number posted on the truck. Any company should be able to produce it on request — check before your move-out date, not on it.

Does storage near the military bases fill up during PCS season?

Yes — storage near San Diego's bases tends to fill before peak PCS season even reaches its busiest weeks in June and July, so lock in storage space earlier than you would for the move itself.

Is it cheaper to rent my own storage unit and move it myself?

For a short gap and a small load, sometimes. Once it's a full household or the gap runs more than a few weeks, one crew handling the move, storage and delivery usually costs less in time than doing it in two separate trips.

Do I need to arrange anything with my building before moving day?

If you're in a downtown high-rise, most require booking a loading dock and elevator window ahead of time, plus a certificate of insurance naming the property manager. Let us know which building at booking, and we'll get the paperwork sorted well before your move-out date.
